My First Jobs!

Today I thought I would help you guys get to know me a bit better by telling you guys all about my first jobs!

House Mouse:

When I was about 5 I started doing chorus around the house for my mom, it was simple things like dusting the book shelves, organizing books alphabetically, etc, and she would give me $0.50-$2.00 per job. I loved doing it because I always had money for the Ice Cream Truck, or if I wanted a new toy. I then started “lending” myself out to the neighbors to wash their dishes, do their vacuuming, etc, and I did that until I was about 12 years old. My mom called me her House Mouse, which I think is very fitting as I’m very domestic, I love homemaking, and nurturing people.

Perfume Spritzing & Knife Throwing

When I was 13 my brother and I worked at our local flea market selling knock-off perfume and knives/swords for this guy that would travel to China and bring back huge containers filled with them. We worked on commission and so you bet I was out there hustling trying to get that sale! I ended up quoting because my birthday fell on a Saturday and he wouldn’t give me that day off, and as myself and 3 of my friends, who we all shared a birthday, had a collective party planned and I didn’t want to spend the whole day in the sun. My brother however wasn’t too happy with me lol.

The Babysitters Club

After giving up the thrills of that job lol, a few friends and I decided to start our own version of the babysitters club, of which I nominated myself president lol. We made posters and hung them on the neighborhood mailbox, people would call my house and I was in charge of scheduling, so naturally I took a percentage of their babysitting money lol. I would say we did this for a good few years, and we all loved it, and we had plenty of money for our trips to Hot Topic hahaha.

Sonic

I worked at Sonic for a few months whilst living near New Orleans, it was one of my favorite jobs due to the fact that I got to wear rollerblades, which I love, and it was a great way for me to meet people as I was the new girl in town.

Receptionist

I worked as a receptionist for my boyfriends Grandma who had an accountancy firm, I hated this job, it only consisted of answering phones, and I’m the type of person that needs something to do at all times, so this was not for me.

Photographers Assistant

This was also a favorite job of mine. I felt like I learned so much whilst there, but I also wish I would have payed more attention, asked more questions, and stayed in touch with my boss, Kevin. He was such a nice guy, and there are so many things I wish I could ask him today.

Avon Lady

My mom talked me into this one, and after selling product to all my friends, family and neighbors, I didn’t know where else to go with it. I also felt like my director wasn’t very helpful as she kept telling me to place more catalogs and people would call me, but those things were like $15 for a pack of 10 and I couldn’t afford to spend that kind of money, especially because there was no guarantee people would call. I am so happy I didn’t try and pursue this further as they now sell their products directly on their website, so I would have been in competition with Avon itself for sales, and I think we know who would have won that battle.

Live in Nanny

Very soon after giving up on Avon, my neighbor very sadly fell very ill with stage 4 cancer. He was a single dad of 3 children who were 10, 9, & 8, and he was really struggling to keep appearances up with his children. He asked if I would be willing to move in as a live in nanny, which I actually would have done even if he couldn’t pay me, but he was able to which helped when it came time to pay for college. I lived there for 6 months getting the kids up and ready for school, doing the cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, pretty, much anything associated with keeping house and raise 3 children I did. After about 6 months summer vacation came, and the children were sent to live with his sister, and he did sadly pass away. I can very happily report that I am still in contact with his children and they are all doing well!

Real Estate Office Manager

Very shortly after starting my nanny job I met Don and when my nanny job ended I began working for him as an office manager, which meant I answered phones, booked appointments, did the payroll, managed the website, anything associated with running a real estate office I was doing. I actually really liked this type of an office job, as it was so hands on with everything, and had very little to do with simply answering phones.

Makeup Artist

Even though I liked running Don’s business for him, I really enjoy being creative, which is one of the reasons I loved working as the photographers assistant, and I also loved dealing with the actual makeup aspect of Avon, so I decided to go to makeup artistry school. I loved makeup artistry school, it was a 6 week course that was 5 days a week, 5 hours a day. It covered not only makeup application, but also prosthetics which I find so incredibly fascinating.

After finishing school I was so lucky to have a family member that had an established agency and she took me on as her assistant. I started off doing bridal and prom makeup, and later worked up to doing film/photo shoots. I found that the bridal/prom makeup was so much more enjoyable as people tend to be happy on those days, where as working with ordinations its all about the grind, and getting people in and out of that chair. After a while I felt burnt out, and realizing I couldn’t make a living doing just bridal/prom makeup I knew I would never be happy sticking with the agency so I did end up quoting that.

YouTuber/Blogger

During my time as a makeup artists I did start my blog and youtube channel, which I’m so happy I did, it has been an amazing creative outlet for me, and I have been so lucky to have been able to form friendships with my readers/viewers.

I still run Don’s business for him, as we have now gotten into a groove where it’s so easy and feels like almost no work, and I’m focusing on growing my blog and my channel.

I would love if you guys told me what your first jobs were in the comments below, and also what your dream job would be.
