Almost a year ago I purchased my first BareMinerals Get Started Kit! I had always associated BareMinerals as “grownup” makeup, I have no idea why, but I saw this kit on Sephora and really wanted to give it a go. Sadly this kit is no longer available from Sephora but I did find it at Selfridges and a similar kit at Nordstrom and QVC. When I bought my kit it came in 3 shades Light, Medium, and Dark, which can be hard for anyone who doesn’t fit into that very broad generalization, however the kits now come about 7-9 ranges!!! which is so exciting. I quickly want to mention BareMinerals does carry their full size items in a very large range of shades, if you head to your local Sephora, Nordstrom, or Macy, you should see them there.
In this kit you get the following:
The BareMinerals Flawless Face Brush will honestly apply your makeup flawlessly. I have never used this on a single powder product and not liked it, its also insanely soft. I have used this with the foundation, then the mineral veil, then added my bronzer, blush, and highlight, I do all of that in one sitting, and it applies it all beautifully. I wash my brushes once per week, but I have a washcloth that I keep next to my makeup and as I use a brush I just wipe it on the cloth, I find it keeps your brushes cleaner, but also it really makes your brushes last longer.
I always use the BareMinerals Original Foundation as I find the BareMinerals Matte Foundation to be very dry, I do have dry skin which makes me biased against anything matte as my skin is naturally matte feeling lol. The foundations have these little dots inside the packaging, you spin the top of the tub and it opens the dots, I then tap a little bit of powder into the lid, I then dip my brush into the lid and tap off the excess back into the lid so I don’t waste any product.
The first few times I used this I didn’t like it, but looking back I was using 2-3 times the product I needed, so start off slowly and add more if you think you need more. I don’t find this to be super full coverage but it does come across as like a medium-full coverage, as you can build it up. I also find this to feel more natural when I’m wearing it, versus liquid foundation. Finally the thing that makes me reach for this on a constant basis, it doesn’t melt off in the humidity!!! I honestly just heard a choir of angels singing Hallelujah haha, that may not be completely true, but I do really love having my foundation stay in place in this hot Hawaiian sun.
The BareMinerals All Over Face Color is not for me, at the moment, I say that because this shade is very red undertoned, and while I have red undertones I don’t really want to add red onto my face. I have seen that their are other shades, so I do want to go an investigate that.
The BareMinerals Mineral Veil is literally the most amazing powder I’ve ever used!!! I know thats a huge statement to make but I honestly apply this and it looks like its blurred any imperfections on my face. I add this after the foundation as my setting powder.
The BareMinerals Prime Time Primer is really not my favorite, it comes out as a gel rather than a cream, and it feels a bit greasy or maybe oily, either way I don’t care for it.
All in all I’m so happy I bought this kit as It’s a great way to test out the BareMinerals brand, and you can find what you like and what you don’t like inexpensively. If you do decide to try this out please give it a proper 30 day try before deciding as it does take a few tries to find out how much product you personally need to get your flawless look.
I would love to know if you guys have ever trade anything from BareMinerals and if so what, if you haven’t would you give powder foundation a go? You can also watch the video for this here.
