In December 2004 Don and I closed escrow on our condo, it was a total fixer upper but it was ours and we loved it. We quickly went about making it our own and loved every step of that journey.
In December 2019 Don and I decided that it was time for us to leave Hawaii, we were tired of living in a condo, and we wanted to create our own homestead with a big garden and animals, the cost of land in Hawaii was far beyond our budget, and so we knew we would be heading back to the mainland.
And then Covid hit! On February 27, 2020 Dons doctor called and said some of the stuff he was seeing regarding this new coronavirus had him concerned and since Don’s medication had a side effect that was immunosuppressive we should consider limiting our interactions with others. We immediately started self isolating, and then our island went into lockdown on March 13, 2020, we stayed in lockdown until July 1st, we were back in lockdown on August 8th and remained there until 2021.
On January 1 2021, Don and I told our families that we weren’t going to continue to put this on hold and we would be moving in June of 2021.
It took A LOT of time and effort to organize a move that crosses 2500 miles of ocean but we are so excited for this next chapter!!!!
We have so many friends and family and memories here and I know so many of you are probably screaming at the screen right now saying “Who Leaves Hawaii!!!”, but the Hawaii you see in the moves sadly doesn’t exist anymore, its become so commercialized and the Aloha Spirit feels lost and its just become another highly populated metropolis.
I hope you’ll continue to follow us on our journey, there will be lots to come!
